‘Your World Of Text’ Is An Infinite Artwork That People Anywhere Can Build Upon

Metaverse, schmetaverse. A primitive form of this immersive reality is Your World of Text, an infinite, editable collaborative canvas of text that anyone can add to in real-time… so maybe it’s more like Wikipedia?

The platform, created by programmer Andrew Badr in 2009 and recently featured by Boing Boing, is just as it sounds: it’s a world created out of text. Democracy is a huge deal here because it’s completely up to the public to make it beautiful or a little more, er, human.

Although it’s essentially an endless TXT document, the site is still very much alive 12 years on, conforming to the evolving zeitgeists of the decade.

This is where the multifacetedness of human creativity is most evident. Not only have people come in to make conversation via text, in the most literal sense, but they’re also drawing characters and even terraforming (Animal Crossing, who’s she?).

Perhaps Mark Zuckerberg’s TheFacebook really should have been as simple as this. Just give people an online Wall and they’ll create something magical out of it.
