BBL youngster hit by scary moment in the field

The Adelaide Strikers‘ Matthew Kelly was this morning involved in a scary moment in the field when he tried to stop the ball sailing over the boundary for six.

Fielding at deep mid-wicket in the eighth over in a match against the Perth Scorchers, Kelly was about to leap when he tripped over the boundary and clutched his left ankle immediately.

The youngster sat in the front row at Adelaide Oval as he received medical attention and the Strikers replaced him with a substitute fielder.

But fortunately for Kelly and the Strikers he was back in the field from the start of the 10th over.

“Straight away he knew he was in a little bit of trouble,” said Mel Jones on the Fox Cricket broadcast.

The Scorchers made 9-127 from their 20 overs, with first drop Laurie Evans top-scoring in an innings of 39 from 31 balls.

While the Scorchers are sitting on top of the ladder with 10 wins this summer, the Strikers will register just their fourth victory of the competition if they chase the visitors’ total.
